Terrain Race

 Ben did a Spartan race in February of this year and really loved it. Since then, he has been asking me to do an obstacle race with him. He told me that during his Spartan, all he could think about was how fun it would be to do it with me. I was pretty hesitant, but he finally convinced me to do a fairly easy going race at the beginning of July.

 

 We started training in May and were not as dedicated as we should have been. The night before the race I was so nervous! Ben was very encouraging! 

It actually ended up not being too bad, it was a 5K with around 20 obstacles. Ben and I were able to run most of the race and there were only two obstacles that I could not complete and one that Ben was unable to finish.

  My favorite part was that we started off in this huge tub of cold water and then went through mud puddles through out the race. It helped keep us nice and cool.

We also signed Jocelyn up for the mini monkey race, which was a half mile with a few obstacles. She trained with Ben and I for her race and was so excited to participate.

One night when we were training doing circuits at the track, she was running next to me and said, "Mom, I think I am going to throw-up." I told her to slow down and take it easy and we could walk. She walked for a whole 30 seconds and then replied that she was ok and needed to keep on running. When Jocelyn sets her mind on something she is determined to finish. Luckily there was no puking that night!

She was a champ during her race and did awesome! She got a little nervous at the top of the cargo net and froze, Ben told me after the race that she is for sure his daughter, because that is exactly what he does.

Jocelyn has a good Daddy who walked her through the whole thing and she made it down!

After Jocelyn's race she got her T-shirt and medal! She wore it proudly.

She then informed Ben and I that she was ready to do the big race with us. She was pretty sad when we told her that she was not going to be able to run with us.

Two of Ben's soccer girls were there and they watched the girls for us while we did our race. Jocelyn cheered up pretty quickly though and was excited to play with her friends. They took her around the race and we were able to see her cheering us on at different obstacles. At the monkey bars she was yelling out, "Climb like a monkey!"

 

Ben and I were pretty dirty after our race. We thought Jocelyn was going to go through mud as well on her race, but she came out pretty clean.

 She picked up all of her grime just from playing in the dirt.

At one point she was literally laying on the ground, gathering dirt, and making a huge pile right on her chest and stomach.

We are now legit mud monkeys.

We conquered our terrain! We are looking forward to the next race.
