Excitement from Yard Work

 Ben and I were doing some yard work one afternoon, while Bridget was napping. Ben was spraying some weeds with Round-up by our drive-way and heard a little chirp. He looked down and was surprised to find a hummingbird. Ben reached down and gingerly picked it up. The hummingbird was holding its wing funny and we thought it looked like it could be injured.

 Jocelyn was pretty fascinated and got close to get a good look. The hummingbird was calm and content to just sit in Ben's hand. Ben even attempted to put it down once and it did not want to be put down. After sometime of thinking what we should do with the potentially injured hummingbird it randomly started chirping.

 A short while later we heard another Hummingbird chirp back and then it flew into view. It was at that time that it dawned on us, that this with a baby Hummingbird. We looked up what we should do on the internet; good old google, which has the answer to all questions. A website told us that you may find baby hummingbirds out of their nests when they are learning how to fly and that their mom is always close by to feed it. I started to make a little sock nest for it, so we could put it in the tree and have its mom come feed it.

 Sure enough after I made the sock nest the little guy decided to fly on its own right up into our tree! He must have just been tired and needed a little rest. The baby bird's mom immediately flew in and fed the baby. She flew a few branches over and waited. A short while later they flew off together.

It was a really neat experience, I mean, really, how often do you get to hold a hummingbird!
