I made us a reservation for a a camp ground at Pine Lake, near Bryce Canyon, early this summer. It is a more primitive campsite with no showers and only vault toilets. However, this campground did not disappoint. It was beautiful, the camp sites were relatively spaced out with so many trees it made you feel more secluded. The weather was perfect, crisp mountain air. The lake was a short walk from our campsite.
We walked on a bridge that took us over a small creek, then followed the trail to the lake. The trail took us around the lake. It was beautiful little hike.
We had a great time enjoying the outdoors. We got some good campfire time, roasted some hot dogs and ate some smores, hunted for firewood, and enjoyed some good hammock time. We even successfully cooked in our dutch oven with charcoal.
Ben took a rest in the hammock and read a book. I took the girls on a walk around the campground with the dogs. While we were gone Ben said out campsite got invaded by some chubby chipmunks. Some were eating the dog food and others were in our garbage can. When the girls and I returned they all scattered. Later on I tried to take a rest in the hammock and my hammock was invaded by some cute little girls.
Jocelyn, was particularly fond of this piece of firewood and spent time decorating it with mud and rocks.
Our reservation was for two nights. Unfortunately for us, there were scattered Thunderstorms during our stay. We survived the light rain during the night and the morning was beautiful. It started to rain in the early afternoon and we discovered that our tent is not quite waterproof anymore. We had some leaks from the roof. After the storm, the sun came out and everything dried up pretty quick. We though we were golden. However, around 5pm while cooking dinner another storm blew in and it poured. Our tent had huge puddles in the corners and our sleeping bags got a little damp. We packed up quickly and took off for home.
