Lee's Ferry

Lee's Ferry is only about 11 miles down stream from Glen Canyon Dam. However, it took us a little over an hour and a half to drive to it. Oh the joys of living in Arizona. There is not really a direct route to anything. Plus it doesn't help that they have not repaired Highway 89 yet.

Had to post this one, she still loves poking out that tongue!

On the tour of the Dam we learned that the water that is released is from the bottom of the lake is about 40 degrees Farenheit. This causes the water in the river to be much cooler than usual and actually has caused the native species in it to suffer. But for us it was like air conditioning. The nice breeze off the river was refreshing, just wouldn't want to take a dive in it.

 The fort was built to help defend but was never needed.

On the sign it says that we could hike 3/4 of a mile and see the remains of the Ferry cable. If we stood on the hill by remains from a building then we would see it. So...we got there and could not find anything. We were looking everywhere. Ben decided to walk a little further down the trail and yelled out to us that he thought he found it.

This is the cable that we hiked round trip of a mile and a half to see in the middle of a hot hot day. It was pretty anti climatic and a little disappointing. Alright it was very disappointing.

On the hike we did get to see a molting lizard (since we don't get to see enough lizards around here) and Ben fulfilled his life long dream of catching a horny lizard.

  The drive was nice, the river was beautiful, and it was enjoyed with some great company.

Overall it was a pretty fun adventure. A word of advice If you decide to go check out Lee's Ferry look around at everything but may I suggest just skipping the hike to the remains of the ferry. You can look at my picture of the cable and you didn't miss out on a thing!

I hung out in the air conditioned car because I was feeling overheated from the hike and sung Jocelyn some songs. She thought I was pretty entertaining!
