Big Water Dinosaur Festival 2016

Lisa and Travis were able to come and spend a weekend with us in September. It was so fun to have them here.

On Saturday afternoon, we headed out to Big Water to go to the Dinosaur Festival. I think Travis and Lisa got a pretty good feel of what being in a small town is like and how you take every opportunity to go to any event no matter how small it is.

The fair was not as exciting for adults unless you are super into dinosaurs fossils and have a lot of questions to ask a paleontologist.

 I did get to a hold a a real fossil which was exciting! It was a tooth from a Teratophoneus. This carnivorous dinosaur lived during the Cretaceous Period and they find tons of fossils from it all around Utah.

Travis and Lisa were good sports about being there and even got to buy themselves some local honey. But, for kids they had some fun activities and Jo had a blast.

Jo made her own Dinosaur mask. She had fun decorating it. We came home and she ripped off half of the decorations before I could get a picture of her wearing it.

She made a fossil. She also got to play a bean bag toss game where she try to knock over as many dinosaurs as possible. Jo totally biffed it while playing. The lady felt bad for her and gave her a few extra points. Jo did manage to knock down a dinosaur or two on her own though which was pretty impressive because they had to stand quite a ways away from the dinosaurs.

Of course her favorite activity...digging through the dirt to find two dinosaurs.

 

 After walking around and seeing everything there was to offer we headed over to the Big Water Visitors Center to see what was over there.

We were able to see a cast of a Teratophoneus skull, as well as a few other dinosaurs skulls.

It was a pretty small visitors center. However, we did see a map and pictures of some awesome hikes around us that we would love to do.
