In October, my Mom and Dad were able to come and visit us! After two years of coming in October I informed them that it is now tradition and they need to come visit every October! We were able to plan an overnight trip to visit the Grand Canyon. Unfortunately, there were very few Hotels available and we had to stay in Williams which is about an hour from the Grand Canyon. It all worked out great though and we really enjoyed the trip and the hotel.
Friday morning we all squished into my Dad's truck and drove to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. We were only about to see a few viewpoints and we made it to the visitors center that day. Our first stop was the Watchtower. We enjoyed the beautiful views. Then went inside the watchtower to warm up a bit. It was kind of a chilly day.
We were unable to climb to the very top of the Watchtower because the last stairway was blocked off. We enjoyed the views from the second floor.
The girls had fun walking around looking at the pictographs painted on the walls and looking out the windows.
We saw some picnic tables. So, we took a break from the gorgeous views and ate our lunch.
After lunch we headed back to the car to go see more views of the Grand Canyon. Bridget got a ride back to the car from her Daddy.
We did not have any time for any hikes this trip. So, we just drove along stopping at different viewpoints.
Until we made it to the visitors Center. At the Visitors Center we watched the video and took the short walk to the viewpoint. We even met Cookie Monster at the Grand Canyon. Jocelyn really wanted a picture with him. After the photo we realized he was independent from the park and we had to pay him a dollar.
We really enjoyed our day at the Grand Canyon. We stopped in Tusayan on our way to Williams and ate at Pizza Hut. We also were able to see "Grand Canyon: The Hidden Secrets" at the IMAX theater in Tusayan. The movie was really interesting and even talked about John Powell exploring the Colorado River. It had scenes that made us feel as if we were on a helicopter exploring the beautiful views of the Grand Canyon from above. There were a few moments in the movie that startled the girls: such as some tribal disputes and a Mountain Lion tracking a man.
There were very few other people in the theater with us and Bridget close to the end of the movie had lost interest in watching. Bridget decided to start exploring the movie theater close. She found a gap in between two chairs that was on each row and started swinging through each gap until she was close to the bottom of the theater. At the end of the movie, lightning flashed across the screen and the thunder roared through the speakers and the movie theater went dark. By the end of the scene she was back up next to us. We all had a good chuckle. We ended our night with the drive back to Williams to check into our hotel.
