We made a trip up to Salt Lake after New Years for Jessie's baby shower. Ben had quiet a long Christmas break and so while we were up visiting everyone else had already returned to work. One afternoon while everyone was working, Ben and I took the girls to the Living Planet Aquarium in Draper.
Our girls just love any animals, and enjoyed looking at all the birds, turtles, frogs, and fish. They had an electric eel. The exhibit had a meter that would show us how much electricity the eel was producing. Jocelyn went right up to the eel and all of a sudden the eel let out this huge surge of electricity and the meter made a really loud noise. It scared Jocelyn to death! An employee came up to us and tried to comfort Jocelyn. She explained to us that Jocelyn approaching the glass, for some reason, must have made the eel feel like he needed to protect itself so it let out a surge of electricity.
The girls got to see how long they were compared to a python. They got to climb on some frogs and then be "brave" and climb through a rope bridge.
They also had employees out showing the children creepy, crawly animals. The girls got to see a tarantula and then they got to pet a cockroach. A special treat, we got to see a cute little hedgehog and pet it as well. It was such a fun interactive aquarium. Lots for the girls to climb on and touch. It kept their attention very well.
Bridget's favorite little animal was a bird in the Asian exhibit that was running all around its enclosure. She would follow it around giggling at it and calling it a "silly goose." She watched it for close to fifteen minutes. This little bird was right next to the clouded leopards which were pacing and jumping around. They were neat to watch, but Bridget was too interested in the bird to really even notice them.
They had two fun 4D movies. We watched the polar bear one first and then watched the Ice Age movie second, which the girls enjoyed it the most. It also was more interactive. The chairs moved more and there was lots of sneezing and being sprayed with water.
One of our last stops was the penguins. The girls love the posters that show the sizes of all the different penguins. They like to see how they measure up. Bridget is about the same height as a Gentoo Penguin and Jocelyn is a little bit taller than a King Penguin.
They had all these cute penguins posters along the wall by the penguin exhibit. Jocelyn made me take of picture of her at each penguin. There was like 8 of them! So, here are two.
We had such a great time exploring the aquarium.
