Coral Pink Sand Dunes

My parents, after years of talking about it, finally decided to make the plunge and buy a side by side. My Mom and Dad booked a vacation rental in Kanab and planned a trip in June. Lisa and Travis were able to come and spend the weekend as well. Unfortunately, Sheena and her family were unable to join us because they were at a Chaston family reunion. It was so nice for us to drive just an hour to spend time with family. I wish it was like that all the time! Our first full day we went out to Coral Pink Sand Dunes. It was a great temperature, but it was a little windy.
My Dad, Travis, Lisa and I got to take the side by side out for it's first spin and also were able to enjoy getting stuck in the dunes for the first time! After pushing our way out of the thick sand we drove on and found some good hills. At the park they have sand snowboards and sleds that you can rent. After a few tries we realized to get good speed you need to wax up the boards for every single ride down the hill. It was a little nerve wracking at first. But, after a few practice runs we started to get more comfortable, got some good speed, and had such a fun time!
It really did not even hurt too bad when you fell on the sand. Which I did quite a lot at the beginning!
We had to take turns going out for rides on the side by side. So, the four of us headed back and Ben and each of the girls got to go out for a spin.
There is an overlook of the sand dunes, we had brought a shade cover, but it was too windy to set it up. Instead of sitting out in the sun, we decided to head under the shade of the overlook and that is where we set up camp for the day. So, while others were out riding the rest of us were talking, eating snacks, relaxing in the shade, and playing in the sand.
Some of the family members made the trek out to some big dunes by the overlook. However, there ended up being a pretty good hill right next to us and I decided to try it out. Sand boarding is pretty dang exhausting. It is fun riding down. But, once you ride down you have to hike all the way back up. It was a good work out. So, the less walking I had to do to get to the hill the better. We all improved significantly throughout the day and started getting some good speed heading down the hill. However, the sled never got going quite as fast. The girls had a great time sledding and my mom and dad had some good runs as well.
We seriously had such a great time at Coral Pink and cannot wait to head back another time.
