For Ben's and my birthday weekend we decided to head on back to Williams, AZ where we camped for our birthdays last year. We were unable to spend much time at the campground last year because we had planned to go to Bearizona and the deer farm. This year we wanted to just spend time at the campground. We thought about tent camping, but when we looked at the weather and saw lows in the 30's, we decided to rent the cabin and opt for a space heater for the girls. We pulled into the campground kind of late on Friday night, so we set up our beds and everyone went to sleep pretty quickly.
Jocelyn was excited to sleep in her new sleeping bag. However, when it actually came time to going to sleep she was nervous and wanted to jump into our bed. Ben gave her a little flashlight to hold while she fell asleep and it worked like a charm. She gave us a five minute light show and then was out for the night.
In the morning, Jocelyn and I got up and went outside to let Ben and Bridget get about another hour of sleep. Jo and I had fun swinging on the porch swing. Jo also enjoyed playing in the dirt.
Bridget and Ben joined us a short while later and we got our breakfast burritos cooking on the Volcano.
Jocelyn also got her breakfast of spaghetti and meatballs cooking as well (pine needles and rocks).
After finishing our breakfast we headed out on a two-mile loop hike right from the campground. Jocelyn really enjoyed walking the dogs. At one point we had to take the dogs' leash back, because they kept seeing squirrels and wanted to chase after them (we joked about how right the movie Up is, "Squirrel!"). Poor Jo would either get pulled along and trip on a rock or she would let go of the leash and the dogs would go sprinting off.
At the end of the hike when we had gotten past squirrel territory, we let both dogs off the leash and they got to run with Ben and Jo. They were in pure heaven and so was Jocelyn!
If they started to run too far ahead they would turn around and come right back. They stayed right by us. Jocelyn even got to run ahead with them by herself and she would call to them to come to her.
Bridget enjoyed a nice long nap and woke up at the end of the hike a happy camper!
She was just full of smiles and adorable babbles!
Jocelyn found a nice big rock at the end of the hike and had to climb up it and get a picture.
After our two-mile walk, Jocelyn was ready to go go go onto the next activity. She swam and then wanted to go right to the park following that. I had to convince her to eat some food between swimming and the park.
Daddy even had some fun playing at the park.
We got back from the park and the girls had a small dinner and then they both went to sleep. Ben and I enjoyed sometime talking while our tin foil dinners and monkey bread cooked on the Volcano (which turned out so good by the way). Food does always taste better when you are camping.
On Sunday before we checked out, the girls were able to participate in an Easter Egg hunt.
Jocelyn got five eggs and had so much fun!
The kids that were five and under were able to go first. So, while Ben helped Jocelyn hunt for eggs, Bridget and I went off to find a few eggs. Bridget picked up one egg and by the time I snapped her picture, the older kids were running towards us. I barely had time to pick up Bridget and save her from being trampled.
As you can see she was pretty excited about her one egg!
